CHRLS Alumni Involvement

Volunteerism is a key element in the success of the Center for Human Resources and Labor Studies and the Carlson School.  Each year CHRLS alumni give the gift of their time and talent by serving as volunteers in a wide array of programs throughout the Center. Alumni are encouraged to:

  • share their expertise through one of the CHRLS's volunteer programs;
  • enhance their careers with one of several professional development opportunities; and
  • stay in touch through the Carlson School’s online directory and Class Notes

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

HRIR Mentorship Program

The HRIR Alumni-Student Mentorship Program matches HRIR graduate students with an alumnus/a, providing the student the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge from HR professionals as well as advice on the direction of their future careers. The role of the mentors is to meet with their student regularly throughout the 9-month program. Participants are also invited to CHRLS roundtable discussions and receive suggestions on activities to attend together.

Alumni Board Membership
The CHRLS Alumni Board works to strengthen the relationship between the CHRLS and its alumni, and to promote leadership in the HR profession.  Board members direct alumni activities such as the HR Tomorrow Conference, the HRIR Mentorship Program, and Professional Development Workshops.  Board members commit to a three-year term, and must have completed all the requirements of the MA-IR or MA-HRIR program and been granted their degree.

Alumni Career Network
Alumni Career Network is an opportunity for Carlson School alumni and current students to build their professional networks, serving as career-related resources for one another. This is an integral part of the Business Career Center's approach to helping students build their professional networks.

Guest Speaking
Each semester, over 400 alumni and other industry leaders are brought into classrooms at the Carlson School. Speakers share real-world applications of the theories and practices students learn in their textbooks and from faculty. Time commitment varies; speakers are needed for both day and evening classes and events.
