Carlson Automated Recruiting System (CARS) Eligibility

Student Accounts
As a student, you are eligible for CARS access if you are pursuing:

  • A Carlson School of Management degree
  • A self-designed degree (ICP)approved in conjunction with the Carlson School
  • A BS or BA in Actuarial Science at the U of M

We verify a student’s degree before opening a CARS account. Student accounts are closed 3 months after a student graduates. Or, if a student has not been registered with the University for 2 semesters, their CARS account may also be closed.


Carlson School of Management degrees:
The following degrees are currently granted access to CARS by the Carlson School of Management:

  • BSB - Bachelor of Science in Business
  • Doctor of Philosophy - Business Administration
  • Doctor of Philosophy - Human Resources & Industrial Relations
  • MA-HRIR - Master of Arts - Human Resources & Industrial Relations
  • MBA- Master of Business Administration
  • Part-time, Evening MA-HRIR, and Executive MBA students are able to RSVP for company information sessions and access the alumni and student networks via CARS throughout the duration of their program. In addition, they are eligible to participate in on-campus recruiting (OCR) and access external job postings the fall of the final year they are enrolled in the program.   • MBT - Master of Business Taxation
  • MHA - Master of Healthcare Administration students with access right now can continue to use CARS but no more MHA students will be given access.

Self-Designed Degree Approved in Conjunction with the Carlson School of Management

  • This includes the Inter-College Program (ICP) degree. But only after their degree program has been approved through the Carlson School Undergraduate department.
  • Does not include BIS, or other independently designed degrees.
  • Does not include students in exchange programs from other schools unless their school has a reciprocal program.

Actuarial Degree

A BS or BA degree in Actuarial Science.


Alumni Accounts

As an alumnus, you are eligible if you:

  • Received a degree through Carlson School of Management
  • Or were eligible for, and in CARS, as a student

If you have special needs and believe an exception to the above policy is in order, please see a counselor in the BCC office.


Online Forms


Whether you are a student, an alumnus, or a recruiter, you will find the forms you need to:

  • Request a student, alumnus,employer account on CARS. See our eligibility criteria.
  • Fill out an offer form for permanent or internship positions, or make a change to a permanent or internship offer form you had already submitted.
  • Submit an External Job posting. Staff members will process your request within 2 business days.
  • When submitted, these forms will go directly to the responsible person in the Business Career Center office, and are the fastest way to fill your requests.
