MBA in Two Admissions — Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications do I need to apply?
MBA in Two is a selective, deferred admissions program designed
specifically for undergraduate seniors.
Does my undergraduate degree need to be in business?
You are not required to have an undergraduate degree, coursework or work
experience in business. The Carlson School recruits and admits students
from a broad range of academic and professional backgrounds. About
one-third of our students come from a traditional business undergraduate
or professional background, another third of our students have a
background in technology or engineering, and the last third have a
background in a wide variety of disciplines and functional areas (such
as non-profit, education, visual and performing arts, etc.).
How will my application be reviewed?
Applications are reviewed as a whole and candidates are admitted into
the program based on academic credentials and general fit for the
program. The admissions committee will consider your academic
performance (official transcripts for any post-secondary coursework and
GPA), GMAT test scores, admissions interview, work experience, student
involvement and achievements, personal statement, and
Do you require an admissions interview?
Yes. All MBA in Two applicants are required to complete an admissions
interview. After you have submitted your application, you will be
invited to interview.
Are MBA in Two students eligible for scholarships?
MBA in Two candidates are automatically considered for academic
scholarships and fellowships through the admissions review process - no
additional applications are needed. Our academic scholarships and
fellowships are highly competitive, with a typical scholarship recipient
scoring a 700 on their GMAT. You must take the GMAT to be considered for our academic scholarships and fellowships.
What is the GMAT?
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized computer-adaptive test used by schools to help
assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business
or management. It measures basic verbal, mathematical, and analytical
writing skills. The MBA in Two program requires every applicant to take
When should the GMAT be taken?
We require all materials, including test scores, to be submitted before
reviewing an applicant for admission into our program. We recommend
taking the GMAT at least two to four weeks prior to the priority
application deadline to ensure timely review of your application.
Can I take the GMAT more than once?
Yes. If you take the GMAT more than once, the admissions committee will consider your highest score.
What are the minimum score requirements for the GMAT?
In order to be considered for MBA in Two, candidates must score at least a 660 on the GMAT.
What is the application deadline?
To be considered for MBA in Two, seniors must submit a complete
application by July 1 of their graduating year. However, we will
continue to accept applications for the program until September 1 of
that same year.
When are application decisions sent?
Admissions decisions for the MBA in Two program will be provided to applicants 4-6 weeks after the July 1st priority application deadline or September
1st final deadline.
I have been admitted to the MBA in Two program. When do I begin the Full-Time MBA program?
Undergraduate college students apply during their senior year and receive a decision in the summer following graduation. If admitted, candidates would enter the Carlson MBA Full-Time program after completing
two years of professional work experience. For example, if you
graduated by May of 2012 and were admitted to the program, you will
begin the Full-Time MBA program in fall of 2014.
Are there opportunities for MBA in Two students to stay involved with Carlson during their two year deferment?
MBA in Two students participate in career coaching, professional
development and mentorships with the support of the Carlson Graduate
Business Career Center, along with student clubs and organizations -
these opportunities are available to MBA in Two students even before
starting the Full-Time MBA program.
