It is important that your resume look professional in every way:
Format
Printing
Paper
Format
The two types of resumes (chronological and functional) were discussed on pages 45 - 50.
Paragraph style or bullet style?
Format is really your preference. The most effective format is the one that best highlights why you are qualified for the particular job in question. Here are pros and cons of each style:
Paragraph style
Pro: You can put more information on a page. Con: It is a little more difficult for the reader to identify individual tasks and accomplishments.
Bullet style
Pro: Allows you to highlight individual items better, point by point. Con: You lose a little space since each bullet starts on a new line.
Print
Computer word-processed resumes are the norm.
Laser printed resumes look the best and should be used in the rare cases you have to mail or fax a resume.
The combination of a good word processing package and a laser printer can result in an excellent looking resume that is easy to produce and revise, yet reasonable in cost.
Paper
Select high quality and professional looking resume paper for your resume copies for the rare times you will mail a resume.
White, off-white, or light gray are the standard paper colors.
Get matching stationery for cover letters and matching envelopes.
Keep in mind that many recruiters say that professional resume paper does not make or break your candidacy; however, it always makes a nice impression.
