Community of Scholars

 

John Anderson is a Professor of Operations and Management Science. His research interests are in continuous quality improvement, process knowledge, quality management and new product development, and operations strategy. He has published articles on the Deming Management Method, process knowledge and continuous improvement and measurement of SPC implementation. He teaches courses on quality management and Six Sigma and Introduction to Operations Management.

 

Karen Donohue is an Associate Professor of Operations and Management Science. Her research interests include the impact of trade credit on inventory management, service-based supplier competitions and behavioral issues in supply chain management. She has published articles on outsourcing via service competition and behavioral operations management. She currently teaches courses on managing supply chain operations.

 

Susan Meyer Goldstein is an Associate Professor of Operations and Management Science. Her research interests are quality management in health care, service process management and operations strategy. She has recently written research papers on managing variance in high contact services and designing lean service processes. She teaches courses on service operations and introduction to Operations Management.

 

Arthur Hill, the John & Nancy Lindahl Professorship for Excellence in Business Education, focuses his research on Six Sigma, lean thinking, and supply chain management. His research with Radisson found a strong relationship between service guarantees, employee motivation, and service quality. His research with a large medical device firm on process improvement programs in supplier plants found a strong relationship between “the leadership development view” and supplier performance. He currently teaches supply chain management and operations management.

 

Steve Huchendorf is Senior Lecturer and Undergraduate Coordinator in the Operations and Management Science Department. He is Founder and Director of the PACE* Program (*Program for the Advancement of Classroom Excellence), a teacher-training initiative. Recipient of a three-year Bush Grant, he presents Seminars and Workshops on Active Learning Techniques and how to improve student learning. He teaches courses in business statistics, introduction to operations management, and quality management & Six Sigma.

 

Deb Ingram is a Research Associate in the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement. Her research interests are in evaluation and school improvement. She has published on the subject of barriers to the use of data in improving practices in high schools.

 

William Li is an Associate Professor of Operations and Management Science. His research interests are experimental design, computer-aided designs, and robust product and process designs. His articles have appeared in journals such as Journal of Quality Technology and Technometrics. He teaches courses on business statistics, regression analysis, and design of experiments.

 

Kevin Linderman is an Associate Professor of Operations and Management Science.  His research interests are Six Sigma, statistical quality control and quality management. He has recently published papers on Six Sigma definition and theory, learning effects in quality improvement projects, the role of goals in Six Sigma methodology and integrating knowledge creation and quality management. Professor Linderman has also received National Science Foundations grants on Knowledge creation and diffusion in organizations using the Six Sigma approach and Sustaining High Quality Performance in Organizations. He teaches courses in quality management and Six Sigma along with Operations Management for competitive advantage.

 

Alfie Marcus holds the Edson Spencer Endowed Chair in Strategy and Technological Leadership. His research interests are in ethics, boards of directors and corporate strategy.  He has published papers on the relationship of ISO 9000 and performance along with the benefits of being a first or second mover in adoption of ISO 9000. He teaches courses on business ethics, corporate strategy and strategic management of technology.

 

Chris Nachtsheim is the Carlson Professor of Operations and Management Science and the Chair of the Operations and Management Science Department. His research interests are in experimental design, regression and analysis of variance. He recently published a paper on the role of classical designs for quality improvement in the 21st century. He teaches courses on statistics and regression analysis.

 

M. Johnny Rungtusanatham is an Associate Professor in Operations and Management Science.  His research interests are in TQM and performance, supply chain design and disruption, and mass customization.  He has recently published papers on the implementation of TQM across multiple countries; supply chain design, disruption, and performance; and mass customization transition.  His research on the Deming Management Method (co-authored with John C. Anderson and Roger G. Schroeder) is one of the most highly cited papers on Deming and TQM.  He teaches and has taught the introductory operations management course and the quality management course.

 

Roger Schroeder holds the Donaldson Chair in Operations Management. His research interests are in quality management, high performance manufacturing and operations strategy. He has recently published papers on Six Sigma definitions and theory, the relationship of quality management and knowledge creation and the evolution of quality in the first 50 issues of the Production and Operations Management Journal. He teaches courses in operations strategy and international operations.  He has written a popular textbook on Operations Management.

 

Karen Seashore holds the Rodney Wallace Professorship for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education.  Her research interests are in educational reform, culture and organization learning.  She has published on a culture framework for quality values in U.S. High Schools, barriers to the use of data in school improvement and state mandated accountability standards.  She teaches in the area of educational administration.

 

Rachna Shah is an Assistant Professor of Operations and Management Science.  She conducts research in the areas of lean manufacturing systems, supply chain management and information technology. Her recent publications are on the effect of contextual factors in implementation of lean manufacturing practices and defining and measuring lean production. She teaches courses on introduction to operations management, statistical methods and operations strategy.

 

K.K. Sinha is the Carlson Family Foundation Professor of Operations and Management Science. His research interests are in management of technology, operations strategy and supply chain management. He has recently published papers on the topics of customer satisfaction with order fulfillment in retail supply chains, applying process knowledge for yield variation reduction, and managing quality in e-service systems. He teaches courses in the management of technology and operations management.

 

Andy Van de Ven holds the Vernon H. Heath Chair of Organizational Innovation and Change. His research interests are in management of innovation and change, organization theory and trust between organizations.  He was recently awarded a National Science Foundation grant to study long-term sustainability of high quality performance in organizations. He teaches courses on innovation and organization theory.

 

Stuart Yeh is an Assistant Professor of Education Policy and Administration.  His research interests are in educational evaluation and rapid feedback mechanisms to improve educational quality.  He has recently published a book on raising student achievement through rapid and frequent assessment of learning.

 

Sri Zaheer is the Carlson School Professor of Strategic Management and Organization and Chair of the Strategic Management and Organization Department.  Her research interests are in the areas of knowledge management, globalization and cross-cultural studies.  She has published on Six Sigma definitions and theory, quality management and knowledge creation and on Six Sigma goal achievement.  She teaches courses in international business.
