Objective:

This program focuses on international business and the transitioning economies of Central and Eastern Europe and offers students the opportunity to study with an array of international students at a top ranked business university in the heart of Central Europe. Students take courses from top ranked international faculty in the fields such as marketing, accounting, finance, and management. Through group work and in depth discussions students gain exposure to broad perspectives on the topics in class.

12 Carlson School Graduate students; classes will be a mix of students from the United States, Eastern and Western Europe, Latin America, and Asia

6 graduate elective credits. Grading is S-N basis.

Location »

As the capital of Austria, Vienna is considered the economic hub between East and West and is a place many international corporations and organizations call home, including Siemens, 3M, IBM, and Panasonic. World famous for its music, art and culture, Vienna is home to artists and musicians such as Mozart, Beethoven and Klimt.

Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration) or WU is acknowledged as a leader in preparing students to do business across the globe. WU’s International Summer University Program (ISUP) offers a dynamic learning environment focused on providing graduate business students with an international perspective.

Schedule »

The program starts with a campus tour and on-site orientation. Students take 3 classes over the 3 weeks on a variety of international business topics.  Please visit the WU website for course descriptions and detailed program information.  Course topics are typically announced in January.  One of the classes will be taught by a Carlson faculty member. Weekends are free for travel and sightseeing, or exploring Vienna. WU staff organizes a variety of social activities in Vienna such as sporting events, waltzing lessons, visits to wine gardens, etc.

Housing and Food »

Students are housed in double rooms at residencies within a close distance to the University. All students will have access to kitchen facilities in the residence, and computer labs, dining halls, and other campus amenities that are open at the time of the program.

Costs & Financial Aid »

Participants pay $6,400 directly to the University of Minnesota. This fee covers tuition for 6 credits, international health insurance, course materials, transportation passes in Vienna, and some meals. Airfare, meals, personal travel and expenses are not covered by the course fee. Fees are based on estimates and may change due to international economic factors. Financial Aid can be applied to study abroad programs.

Application & Admission »

Application materials include the online application form, a resume, and essay. Students will be charged a $50.00 application fee. Application deadline is January 30, 2010.

This program is open to Carlson students in good academic standing, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of application. The application process is competitive, and space is limited. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Once students submit an application, they will be informed of their status within 4 weeks of the application deadline. Once selected, you will be charged a $500 non-refundable deposit to confirm your place in the program.
