The following message was sent via email from Connie Buechele, Carlson School IT Director, on April 15, 2008, to all who were identified as active QuickPlace users within the past year.
To: Carlson School Faculty and Staff QuickPlace users,
The Carlson School of Management will discontinue the use of QuickPlace this summer as the final phase of the migration from the Lotus Notes products. QuickPlace will be phased out over the summer. Students will have access until May 30th. Faculty and staff will have access through August 31, 2008. The IT department is only contacting those users who have accessed QuickPlace within the past year. You have been identified as an active user.
IT has been reviewing replacement solutions and we are testing a system called Moodle which is available through the University central OIT department. Please wait to create any Moodle accounts, because we are working with them to create a Carlson School Moodle template and we are doing further testing to ensure Moodle covers key QuickPlace functions. We will update you soon with more details.
Required - Download QuickPlace Files:
Even if you plan to use the QuickPlace replacement, you still need to download all QuickPlace files you need to keep. You should start saving your files from QuickPlace as soon as possible. We suggest that you create a logical folder structure to download your files so that they can be easily uploaded into Moodle when that system is ready for you. Below are the instructions to download your QuickPlace Files:
Optional: Netfiles is another University centrally-supported system that provides file storage and the option to share files with others. It does not have as many features as Moodle, but may be an option for some users. Instructions for using NetFiles are provided from the following links:
For those units with complicated QuickPlace sites, multiple rooms and various users with various rights, IT will be working with you to explain how to set up similar configurations in Moodle. As mentioned earlier, we will let you know more about the Moodle plans soon so we can need to meet the August 31st deadline. Faculty and staff who have questions, please contact csemail@umn.edu
