Setting up UMCal
You must enable UMCal prior to installing. Go to: http://www.umn.edu/dirtools and login. At the bottom of the screen in the Other Accounts area, click the options to enable UMCal. UMCal is easy to use -- view the tutorial available from the link below.

- Open the calendar of the person who wants to allow others access.
- From the calendar, select Tools, Access Rights.
- Type the name or use the search option to enter the name of the person you want to have access to your calendar.
- Select the name of the person(s) you added. (Be sure you don't have "Default" selected or you will give access to everyone.)
- Click the Designate and/or other tabs and select the desired options for the selected person.
- Click OK.
Calendar Manager Instructions
Open your personal calendar, then select File, Open as Designate, Agenda. The calendars for whom you are a designate display in the "Act as Designate" window. Select the desired calendar, and click OK.
Using UMCal to reserve a conference room
Faculty and staff can follow these instructions to reserve Carlson School 3rd and 4th floor conference rooms using UMCal.
UMCal management
Occasionally a new staff member or student worker may be in a different node than most of the Carlson School community. This may result in being unable to assign the person as a designate in someone else's calendar. Contact umcal@umn.edu to request to be on the same node as the the person whose calendar you need to work with. UMCal has information about nodes available at: http://www1.umn.edu/umcal/nodes/
UMCal and PDAs
The University has recommendations for handheld devices (PDAs), as well as other calendar support information available here. http://www1.umn.edu/umcal/support/
SyncML is the supported sychronizing software.
