Medtronic Healthcare Case Competition Recognizes Innovative Medical Solutions

The finals for the annual Medtronic Interdisciplinary Healthcare Case Competition took place Friday, Oct. 25th at Medtronic's Rice Creek headquarters. Eight teams comprised of University of Minnesota graduate students competed the prior week for the opportunity to advance to the finals at Medtronic, where the top three teams presented their recommendations to company leaders.

Full-Time MBA students Ryan Marthaler and Svetlana Sandberg,Part-Time MBA students Bryana Mayer and Tenzin Takza, and Pharm.D. student Suresh Kumar Agarwal won this year's competition and shared a $4000 prize.

Sponsored by Medtronic Inc. and coordinated by the Medical Industry Leadership Institute Student Association, the competition presents a rare opportunity for University graduate students in the fields of business, medicine, public health, pharmacy, engineering, law, and public policy to collaborate in teams to create innovative solutions to a contemporary challenge faced by the medical device industry.The annual competition is designed to further innovation and leadership in the healthcare and medical device industry.

After being presented with a real-life challenge faced by Medtronic, teams were given 36 hours to research and analyze the challenge, and to prepare a presentation.
