Description »
The Consortium of Universities for International Studies (CIMBA) program provides Carlson School students with the opportunity to pursue business studies in Italy with fellow U.S. students from business schools around the country. The program's distinctive philosophy is built on the premise that technical competence is only the first phase in the education of tomorrow's leaders. CIMBA's unique offerings go beyond traditional classroom content and seminars on European culture, critical thinking, international relations and the European Union are integral components to the student experience. Guest speakers and company tours also provide students with opportunities to meet international business leaders in the region.
CIMBA's most prominent characteristic - its competitive advantage - is the learning environment. CIMBA has long believed that ture learning involves more than memorizing content. Because of the large number of schools providing high quality professors and the focus on teaching, CIMBA is uniquely suited to expand the learning environment to include small-group cooperative learning and experiential techniques that encourage self discovery. In this environment, high importance is placed on understanding the thinking process, in resolving problems, in efficient decision making and in personal responsibiltiy to one's success and that of others.

Academics »
You will receive 15-17 S/N Carlson School International Business (IBUS 5100) credits for your semester on the CIMBA program. If you wish to apply these credits toward specific degree requirements, your adviser and International Programs will be able to assist you.
Knowledge, process and leadership behavior represent the three pillars on which courses are developed. The program uses a structured process to teach students the efficient use of rational managerial thought while providing a consistent approach to decision making and problem solving. Students also have the chance to pursue four different certificate programs during the semester at no additional cost. The skills and certifications gained in these courses provide students with a unique set of tools applicable to businesses world-wide and a competitive advantage as they begin interviewing for jobs and internships.
The academic structure is as follows:
- Required course on European Culture (1-3 credit options available)
- Required Italian language course (3 credits, multiple levels available)
- Additional business courses based on need and interest to meet the 15 credit minimum
Students may select up to 17 total credits in a number of business related fields such as Marketing, Strategy, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Accounting, and Cross-Cultural Competence and Communication. Full lists of semester offerings are available on the
CIMBA website.
Housing »
Students live on campus in dormitory style housing. Both single and double rooms are available. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom. Students may request particular roommates through the roommate selection form. However, students with no roommate preferences will be assigned to all-male or all-female rooms. The program fee includes a meal plan. This consists of breakfast, lunch and dinner in the cafeteria on campus while classes are in session. Most students travel during the long weekends and food service is not available on campus during these times. When traveling, students are responsible for providing their own meals.
