Breakout Room Announcement Effective October 27, 2008
As of Monday, October 27, breakout rooms in the Carlson School of Management building will be secured with card readers 24 hours a day.

  • Access will be by authorized U Card only.
  • All Carlson School students, faculty, and staff will be authorized for access to these rooms.
  • Students, faculty, and staff whose primary academic home is outside the Carlson School will not be given access to these rooms and may not use them unless accompanied by an authorized Carlson School user.
  • The equivalent rooms in Hanson Hall will be switched to card access as soon as possible.
  • These rooms will continue to be governed by the existing reservation system. 

Carlson students without reservations may use the rooms 24/7, with the following restrictions:

  • If someone else has a reservation, the individual with the reservation has precedence.
  • If the room is reserved for a class, class usage takes precedence.
  • If Facilities Management requests that the room be vacated in order to clean it, users are expected to leave promptly.
  • Carlson users who refuse to vacate a room when requested risk loss of access privileges.
  • In order to provide FM with access for cleaning, reservations will only be taken until 10:00 p.m.  After that, rooms are on a first-come, first served basis. If it turns out that there is more demand than there are available rooms, reservation hours will be extended.

Dale Carnegie Institute Seminar

Rick Kaufman from the Dale Carnegie Institute will be speaking to students at the Carlson School. The seminar is a $1000 value and he will be covering topics like making better first impressions, building rapport and other business communication skills. Food will be provided and all students are welcomed to attend.

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships for Study Abroad in 2010- 2011 - Information Session

Learn from Rotary representatives about the world's largest privately funded scholarship program for international education!  Opportunities are offered for study abroad in nearly 100 host countries, including academic year scholarships, multi-year scholarships, and scholarships for 3-6 months of intensive language study and cultural immersion. Awards range from $10,000 to $23,000, depending on the type and length of the program. May not be used for university-sponsored study abroad programs. Some of the scholarships have language proficiency requirements.  SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, SENIORS, AND GRADUATES may apply. Must be a citizen of a country with Rotary Clubs. Applicants should have strong academic records and a commitment to service. Initial application is made through a Rotary Club in the applicant's hometown or place of current full-time study. New Global Enrichment Program - Live Consulting Project with Cargill!

The Office of International Programs and the University Honors Program (Twin Cites campus) are pleased to announce the opening of applications for the 2009-10 Katherine E. Sullivan Scholarship for Study Abroad. This scholarship provides an opportunity for seniors at any campus of the University of Minnesota to enrich their academic experience with a fifth year of undergraduate study in another country. The scholarship is intended to support credit-bearing and usually classroom-based study abroad that immerses the student in the host university, research institute, or other institution, as well as in the host culture. The University expects to award one or two scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year. Proposals should be for full-time study for a full academic year or equivalent. Applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduates at any University of Minnesota campus; must have senior status (at least 90 credits completed) by the end of Fall semester 2008 with at least 30 credits in residence at a University of Minnesota campus; must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; and should have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Applicants must be available for an in-person interview on the University's Twin Cities campus on February 26, 2009. U-Y Immersion Alternative Winter Break Trips
Choose between Tampa Bay, San Diego, or San Francisco.
Trips are Saturday, January 3 - Tuesday, January 13.

The Y-Immersion program engages student into an experience in order to grow in awareness of social justice and environmental issues. Through volunteering with such projects domestically and internationally, Y-Immersion participants can build leadership skills, form friendships and values, and make differences they may have once seen as unthinkable. Experience from the program and trips are brought back, passed on and shared to benefit the individual and community. Supported by the University YMCA. Cost to you is between $400 - $500.
