As part of 2008 Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship is holding a contest to find the most innovative concept utilizing SPAM. The winner, (Your Name Here), will receive the grand prize $250. Three winners announced on November 20.

Most Socially Responsible - $100
Contest Entry: Sign up your team of 1-4 students in the Holmes Center Office Carlson School 2-212. You will receive one complimentary can of SPAM, a handshake and well wishes.
Contest Rules: Create a short 2-minute video that shows an innovative use of SPAM. Submit the video to jkahl@umn.edu.
Contest Deadline: Entries must be received by November 18. Three winners announced on November 20.
History
1937- SPAM® is born! Originally called HORMEL Spiced Ham, the company holds a contest to create a name as distinctive as the taste. The winner, Kenneth Daigneau, received the grand prize of $100.

Women in Leadership Development (WILD)

The Women's Center is launching a new leadership development program for
Undergraduate women students called Women in Leadership Development (WILD).
WILD offers University women students an opportunity to grow as leaders. A
cohort of women students will meet twice a month to learn practical leadership skills that will improve their personal, academic, and professional accomplishments. Each WILD cohort will also have the opportunity to put their leadership principles and interests into action by
planning the Women's Center's fall week-long event, Discover Exceptional Women (DEW).

Breakout Room Access
If you are having difficulty with accessing a breakout room, send an email to: advisbsb@umn.edu with 'Room Access' in the subject line.
You will also need to include your name, the numbers 600953 - plus the other 11 digits on the front of the card, and the first five yellow/orange numbers located on the back upper right corner of their U Card in the body of their email. Alternatively, you can stop by the UG front desk and your information will be logged and be forwarded to the appropriate person.
Breakout Room Announcement Effective October 27, 2008
As of Monday, October 27, breakout rooms in the Carlson School of Management building will be secured with card readers 24 hours a day.
Access will be by authorized U Card only.
All Carlson School students, faculty, and staff will be authorized for access to these rooms.
Students, faculty, and staff whose primary academic home is outside the Carlson School will not be given access to these rooms and may not use them unless accompanied by an authorized Carlson School user.
The equivalent rooms in Hanson Hall will be switched to card access as soon as possible.
These rooms will continue to be governed by the existing reservation system.
Carlson students without reservations may use the rooms 24/7, with the following restrictions:
If someone else has a reservation, the individual with the reservation has precedence.
If the room is reserved for a class, class usage takes precedence.
If Facilities Management requests that the room be vacated in order to clean it, users are expected to leave promptly.
Carlson users who refuse to vacate a room when requested risk loss of access privileges.
In order to provide FM with access for cleaning, reservations will only be taken until 10:00 p.m. After that, rooms are on a first-come, first served basis. If it turns out that there is more demand than there are available rooms, reservation hours will be extended.
Carlson School Lockers are Available
Stop by the undergraduate program office in Hanson Hall 2-190 to rent a locker for the academic school year. The cost is $20 (cash or check only) for the year; please have your student ID with you. Half and full size lockers are available.

Carlson School Immersion Core (I-core) Information Sessions
The Carlson School undergraduate program office will be offering two information sessions on the I-core next week. The sessions will include a brief introduction of the immersion core, given by a Carlson faculty member who will be teaching one of the core courses, and information on the registration process and how the course will appear on your transcript, class schedule, and more will be discussed. Feel free to attend if you have any questions or concerns on the I-core.

The goals of this program are:
To help Chinese students and scholars at the University of Minnesota improve their English by providing them opportunities to talk with native speakers
To help Americans improve their Chinese. Most Americans enrolled in this program are students whose major is Chinese or who are learning Chinese as a second language.

Katherine E. Sullivan Scholarship for Study Abroad
Application Deadline is February 2
This scholarship provides an opportunity for seniors at any campus of the University of Minnesota to enrich their academic experience with a fifth year of undergraduate study in another country. The scholarship is intended to support credit-bearing and usually classroom-based study abroad that immerses the student in the host university, research institute, or other institution, as well as in the host culture. The University expects to award one or two scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year. Proposals should be for full-time study for a full academic year or equivalent. Applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduates at any University of Minnesota campus; must have senior status (at least 90 credits completed) by the end of Fall semester 2008 with at least 30 credits in residence at a University of Minnesota campus; must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents; and should have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Applicants must be available for an in-person interview on the University's Twin Cities campus on February 26, 2009.
