Will Steger – Global Warming and Green Initiatives!

Will Steger will give a keynote presentation and talk about global warming, the Will Steger Foundation, and his work with businesses on their green initiatives. After Steger's presentation, Mark Schiller, chair of the Carlson School's Green Group, will present on what the Carlson School and businesses can do to reduce their environmental footprints. All students, faculty and staff of the University of Minnesota are welcome to attend. Event is sponsored by the Carlson School's Undergraduate Program.

Carlson Companies Scholarship for Undergrads - 4 Years Full Tuition Paid!

If you, your parents, or your grandparents work at Radisson, TGI Fridays, Carlson Marketing Group, Park Inn, Park Plaza, Country Inns & Suites, the Carlson Companies, or another Carlson Companies subsidiary, you may apply for the Carlson Companies Scholarship, BUT YOU CANNOT APPLY ONLINE. You must complete a separate application for this award before April 1. Applications are available in the Undergrad Office in Hanson Hall. The Carlson School's late benefactor, Curtis L. Carlson established this full-tuition scholarship for Carlson Companies employees and their families.

IT Blog: Keeping You Updated

Carlson School IT is excited to launch an IT Newsletter (blog) to improve IT support, communication and increase knowledge transfer with all our customers-- keeping you updated. The FYI section has technical information and tips; the NEWS section has new products and changes. There are also sections specific to Faculty, Staff and Student IT information and support services. You can subscribe to this blog to easily access updates whenever it is convenient for you at carlsonschool.umn.edu/it/news.


Student Lounge & Breakout Room Access

As a Carlson School undergraduate, you can gain access to the secured Student Lounge in L-100 Hanson Hall and the breakout rooms with the new “smart” UCard. The new smart card is distinguishable by the orange numbers located on the upper right corner on the back of the card. If you do not have a smart card, plan on picking it up at Coffman Memorial Union. We will provide access at monthly intervals when you provide your smart card information in the Undergraduate Program office, 2-190 Hanson Hall. If you have difficulties with your smart card access, go to UCard Access at carlsonschool.umn.edu/Page4533.aspx and complete the form.

Junior and Senior International Business and Trade Majors- Semester in Washington
Application Deadline Wednesday, April 15

American University’s Kogod School of Business – Washington Semester Program is inviting 75 junior and senior undergraduate students majoring in International Business and Trade from around the world to apply for the prestigious sixty year old program of experiential learning in International Business and Trade starting August 2009.

Students will have the opportunity to interact with the newly elected president’s economic team in the White House, State Department, Treasury Department, Commerce Department, US- Trade Representatives, Federal Reserve Board and US Export Import Bank. Elected representatives of important committees in the United State Congress and senior officials of International Development organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Inter-American Development Bank are also included in this program. The Institute for Supply Management(TM) (ISM) is pleased to work with the R. Gene and Nancy D. Richter Foundation in the promotion of the R. Gene Richter Scholarship Program. The R. Gene and Nancy D. Richter Foundation in partnership with the ISM R. Gene Richter Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships of up to $5,000 U.S. dollars to individuals seeking education in the area of supply management or supply chain management for the 2009-2010 academic year. Eligible students will be entering their senior year and must be enrolled full time in an accredited supply management or supply chain management program with the intention of specializing in the supply management profession. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on outstanding academic achievement, high ethical standards, and potential to become a future leader in the procurement field.

This three session career exploration workshop will feature a tour of the Undergraduate Business Career Center, and a discussion of how you can use the Strengths Finder assessment, as well as other career assessments you will take, to help you discover possible careers that are right for you. You will also learn tools and resources for exploring the careers that interest you. Dinner will be served during the workshops. This series consists of 3 expositions highlighting unique industries:

Join us for a unique look into the world of energy! There will be a featured speaker beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the 3M auditorium followed by a free lunch and exposition in the Carlson School Atrium 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.

A unique insight into a unique industry! Representatives from various segments of this industry will have display booths and want to talk to you about what it's like in the industry! A featured keynote speaker will give a brief presentation with theExposition running from 12:00-2:00 p.m.

The Biomedicine industry will be highlighted Thursday, March 5 and the Music/Entertainment industry Thursday, April 23. Mark your calendars now, and watch for more info as the dates approach!


New York Marketing Trek

Looking for an internship/career outside of the Midwest? Want to travel and learn about global companies? Join us on our 2nd annual New York Marketing Trek! The trip will take place March 11-13 before Spring Break. Over the course of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we will be having site visits to roughly 10 companies looking at marketing in the fashion/beauty, media/entertainment and advertising industries. Some of the companies include Coach, L'Oreal, Ralph Lauren, ESPN, MTV, Brand Buzz and RGA. Thursday night will also be a networking event with Carlson School alumni working in New York that will be available to answer any questions you may have about what their jobs are like, what it's like living in New York, etc.

As a student, you will be responsible for making your own travel arrangements and providing for food and lodging. The BCC will cover the Networking event and will be booking rooms for all of the students to stay. PLEASE NOTE: The BCC will not be paying for your hotel room, and you are able to make your own lodging arrangements apart from the group if you prefer, but we will be blocking rooms for all of the students to stay together in one hotel if they choose.

National Rec Sports and Fitness Day - Open to All Students
