FEATURES

Thank you to all involved in Business Week 2009.

Business Week is planned and executed by student volunteers who meet weekly for over eight months. The student committee raised all funds necessary for the events and strengthened our relationship with corporate partners. A very special thank you to: Andy Post (Coordinator), Lauren Cork and Danielle Hilson (Corporate Relations Co-Chairs), Natalie Chan and Tim Krsnak (Dinner and Invitations Co-Chairs), Elise Hanson and Kysa Youngren (Publicity Co-Chairs), Mike Schaan, Stefanie Bentz, and Ken Rygh (Activities Co-Chairs), Tom Mitchell (Speaker Coordinator), and Katie Kennedy (Awards Coordinator). First Generation Program Peer Mentor Position
Application Deadline Friday, April 17 - Email firstbsb@umn.edu for Information and Application

The First Generation program is seeking students who wish to become a peer mentor for the incoming freshman in fall 2009. Program participants will be students with little to no family college attendance history (i.e. first generation). A Peer Mentor is paired with a freshman and answers questions, provides support, information, and academic aid. The deadline for applying for the mentorship opportunity is Friday, April 17th, 2009.

Relay For Life - Come Cheer Us On!

5th Annual Multicultural Celebration - Register by April 17
Saturday, May 9, 1:00 p.m. - Ted Mann Concert Hall.

The Carlson School supports the 5th Annual Multicultural Celebration to honor U of M graduates, sponsored by the University's Office for Equity and Diversity and the Student Excellence in Academics and Multiculturalism (SEAM). The event will take place Saturday, May 9 at 1:00 pm at Ted Mann Concert Hall. Associate Dean Michael Houston will participate in the ceremony as a representative of the Carlson School.

The Music and Entertainment Business Organization
Battle of the Bands Saturday, April 25

The Music and Entertainment Business Organization at the University of Minnesota would like to present a state wide battle of the bands on April 25th on the Spring Jam stage in Riverbend Plaza. Bands have been announced and they include The New Music Machine, Fossils for the Future, Alternate Incident, Alex “Good” Knight, Sam Tornio, Wade Underwood and The Experience, and The Real McCoys. Justice Jam Fest
Monday, April 27 -  Saturday, May 2

Justice Jam is a outdoor music festival that is a celebration at the end of a week-long series of student group coalition events called Actifest, April 27 - May 2. It will be taking place in Minneapolis’ East River Flats Park below Coffman, in-between East River Road and the Mississippi River on May 2. Music will start around 4:00 p.m. Headliners are to be announced.

Applications are now available to become a Peer Advisor this summer for the Carlson School Freshman/Transfer Orientation. This is a great opportunity to meet our new incoming class to the Carlson School, help them register for their classes, and provide leadership to our new freshman class. Women and the MBA Event

Business Career Center Now Hiring for Company Information Session Ambassadors!

The Business Career Center is hiring Company Information Session Ambassadors for the 2009-2010 academic year. Serving as an Information Session Ambassador is a great opportunity to connect with corporate recruiters, while positively representing the Carlson School!

As an information session ambassador, your goal is to ensure that information sessions run smoothly by greeting the company representatives, helping them set up their presentation, and assisting with clean-up. Hours are flexible and include lunchtime and evening hours. This position will require 6-10 hours per week. All students are welcome to apply via external job posting #71108 on The Edge ASAP!

A new organization is coming to Carlson School that will focus on the non-profit, government, and social responsibility industry. It is preferred that students only send resumes if they have completed BA3000. Resumes will be reviewed within 2-3 business days and comments returned to students electronically. This service is available to current Carlson School students only and students with limited resume building knowledge are still encouraged to come in to speak with a Peer Career Coach.


Nonprofit Career Fair and Working for Change Conference

Make it a socially responsible business/nonprofit/public sector week!  On Tuesday April 14th, attend the Nonprofit Career Fair and Working for Change Conference at Coffman's Great Hall. Click here to register.

Come to this event to explore jobs and career paths in nonprofits and social change organizations. From 12 to 4 p.m. more than 80 organizations will have tables and staff reps to talk to you about their organizations and job/intern/volunteer possibilities. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., the "Working for Change Conference" portion of the event is ongoing. During that time there will be numerous, 50-minute workshops that will feature panelists talking about the paths that led them into fields and experiences such as social entrepreneurship, nonprofit, for-profit green careers, working abroad, and post-college service programs.

January 2010 - IDSC 3001 Information Systems - An International Perspective!

International Programs is excited to announce this new study abroad program which will combine study at the Carlson School during Fall Term B, with two weeks in Delhi and Hyderabad, India. The course introduces students to what a business manager should know about information systems. It is set in the context of India, one the fastest growing emerging markets and a global hub for the outsourcing of IT and IT enabled services. The 4th Annual SCOC Case Competition

NABA Twin Cities Student Chapter – you’re invited!

You are invited to an organizational meeting of the Greater Twin Cities Student Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). NABA is one of the leading organizations in expanding the influence of minority professionals in the fields of accounting and finance.

Efforts are currently underway to form a NABA student chapter for college students in the greater Twin Cities area. Thank you to the students at Metropolitan State University for their work so far to get this chapter launched.

The organizational meeting will be: Wednesday, April 22, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the University of St Thomas, Minneapolis Campus - Terrence Murphy Hall, Room 348, 1000 LaSalle Ave, www.stthomas.edu/campusmaps/mpls.asp_

Refreshments will be provided.

At this meeting we will select officers for next year, begin the process of getting the chapter officially recognized by the National NABA organization, and discuss possible plans for the chapter. This will be a great opportunity to network with students from across the Twin Cities. A number of NABA professional members will also be in attendance.
