Human Resources & Industrial Relations Experiential Learning
Experiential learning is embedded into the Master of Human Resources and Industrial Relations program. Our top-ranked faculty and instructors weave cases, ​​speakers, and projects throughout their classes. Additionally, the program has two required courses that include experiential learning as a highlight:
HRIR 6805 Leadership Practicum
The Leadership Practicum is designed to build the cohort of students and to provide experiences and understanding that enhance the learning in the classroom and prepare students for work in the field of human resources. HRIR 6801 HRIR in Practice: Strategy, Execution, and Ethics
Teams will work together to create an applied evidence-based solution for a real-world problem that considers ethical issues and practical implementation considerations. The course will be a capstone experience that will take full advantage of your education, benchmarking of related best practices, and class discussion of both research and practice. Learn more

Case Competitions
In a case competition, participants compete to present the best solution to a business case within an allocated time frame. The case competition at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, will focus on the topic of international human resources management.Â
Graduate Volunteer Consultants (GVC)
Graduate Volunteer Consultants (GVC) is an organization comprised of University of Minnesota Carlson School MBA & MA-HRIR students who are dedicated to providing free-of-charge business consulting services to non-profit organizations in the Twin Cities.
